Park and Campground Host Position

Summersville Lake Retreat Park and Campground Hosts are ambassadors to our region. Our Camp and Park Hosts experience living in West Virginia’s most beautiful and historic area, Summersville Lake and the Gauley River National Recreation Area. Our Hosts can be individuals or teams such as a husband and wife. The schedules of our hosts allow them ample time to enjoy recreational activities with friends and family members. Hosts will have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and develop lots of new friendships. One of the most important benefits that our hosts receive is a sense of satisfaction that comes in knowing you have helped make the camping experience more enjoyable for other campers. They perform a variety of day to day campground tasks such as helping with reservations, greeting guests, handing out information, answering the night phone, cleaning campsites, picking up litter, assisting in the office or with boat rentals, giving lighthouse tours, and informing the manager about potential problems.

Hosts are the heartbeat of our campgrounds and must have a good sense of humor, be courteous, outgoing and helpful to all of our guests. They also need to be physically capable of performing duties. Campground Hosts are expected to be observant for situations within the campground that require immediate attention by staff and/or outside emergency assistance. They need to become familiar with local points of interest and the location where local services can be obtained; e.g., fuel, lp, bait, groceries. Hosts will set an example by being model campers, practicing good housekeeping at all times, in and around the host site, and by observing all rules and regulations.

Hosts provide their own RV lodging but are provided a premium campsite with full utility hookups, on-site transportation, and use of the Retreat’s tools and equipment. They also have access to all of our recreational amenities, are provided staff clothing, and receive discounts on all goods and services. Hosts are asked to work a minimum of 25 hours per week in exchange for their site and are paid for hours worked beyond that. It has not been uncommon for a Host couple to work 40-50 hours per week in the past. Hosts must be able to commit to stay for the season which is typically April 1 through October 31. On Duty hours will be mutually agreed between management and the host.
